BULAWAYO house sensation Qeqeshiwe Mntambo brought the house down at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) Bulawayo nominees’ party at Horizon Pub and Grill on Saturday night.
In front of a sizeable crowd, Qeqe was the pick of the performances as she showed nimble feet and stage presence that people fell in love with during the Kalawa Homecoming party last year.

The Zima ceremony to acknowledge and honour musical excellence and creativity is scheduled to take place in Harare on October 29 at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Representing record label Defined House who are up for the Best House Music Award for their album It’s time, Qeqe sang one of the tracks in the album Hlanyis’ uMoya. She got revellers on their feet and on the dance floor as she transmitted her high energy to the crowd.

She was supported by fellow Defined House group Amigos who sang their hit track Rava Ngobvu.
Another memorable performance was from Best alternative music category nominee Mzoe 7 who performed Godobori, a track by his group House Rebels. Mzoe 7 was backed by his counterpart, Skaiva, on the decks, who is also up for the Best House album accolade for his album Skaiva singles.

Alaina, whose music video Juice Box produced by Andy Cutta is up for the Best Music Video of the Year, also put up a splendid performance that was also commended by Zima marketing and public relations executive Farai Chapoterera who said she was impressed by all the performances at the show.

She said this showed that their nominations were not by fluke but deserved.
She said the nominees’ party was a way to publicise the Zimas and for those who did not understand how the artistes were nominated.
She thanked Hunnar Management Agency, 3D Events, Delta Beverages and Horizon Pub and Grill for their support in organising the event.

KLAP, a group which comprises artistes PoZee, 2Dope, Thorne, Lady Thug, Alaina, P2daoh, Fresh T, Kasi’s Finest, Lil G, and Elbreezy also gave a good performance. They are vying for the Best Hip Hop Music award against Harare-based hip hop gurus Tehn Diamond, Stunner, MMT and Trey XL.

Others that were in the crowd were Zima host Star FM DJ Napstar and well travelled imbube group Black Umfolosi who are nominated for Best A’capella.

The event was hosted by local DJ Joe Tha OG and socialites Mbo Mahocs and Gilmore Tee Moyo who will present an award at the actual event.
