THERE was a flurry of goals in the Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) weekend matches with goalkeepers picking the ball out of their nets 25 times.

Four teams registered wins, while there were three draws.

The battle between log leaders Rebels and second-placed Laduma produced a seven-goal thriller that was eventually nicked by the former, thanks to an 89th minute goal from Nqobile Mhlanga for a 4-3 win.

Rebels opened the scoring two minutes into the match through Charles Phiri before Brendon Mpala added a second in the 16th minute.

Laduma returned from the breather a transformed side and they reduced arrears in the 61st minute when Thandani Mathwasa scored.

Grain Nyathi added a third goal for Rebels in the 75th minute. However, Laduma shot back through a Dominick Nyika goal in the 78th minute before Phathisani Moyo levelled matters four minutes later.

Mhlanga then sealed the victory in the 89th minute to extend Rebels’ undefeated streak to 20.

In other matches, Madamara FC overcame NGA Chronicle 2-1, while SBC Falcons beat Safeguard 2-0 and Anolle Castings beat Vipers 3-2.

Mpilo United’s clash with United FC ended in a goalless draw, while Eleven Stars and Seven Warriors also shared the spoils following a 2-2 draw. Securico and Dynamic Diesel also drew 2-2. — @khumzallen
