the weekend.
Fashionistas and punters came all out to mix and mingle on the same turf courtesy of Delta Beverages through their brand Castle Lager.
Prizes were thrown at lucky winners like confetti at a wedding while one punter drove away in style after winning a brand new Nissan Navara 2,5 Double Cab.
There were other prizes up for grabs with US$50 000 at stake for the “perfect race” on the day.
The Castle Tankard, the oldest and most prestigious horse race, was a hive of activity with spectacular powerhouse performances by the granddad of music Oliver Mtukudzi backed by his Black Spirits, Chioniso Maraire and Victor Kunonga who wowed VIPs somewhere in the middle of the park.
Mtukudzi, who performed in the afternoon before an appreciative crowd, made his presence felt with a polished act.
Those who were not near the stage could be seen somewhere at the beer and food stalls that were dotted around the venue.
As the people criss-crossed at the Castle Tankard field another highlight that saw fashion enthusiasts literally drooling was the Castle Fashion Show where models donned creations inspired by castle colours.
Although the VIPs missed the action at the main stage, mbira queen Chioniso backed by Vibe Culture did not disappoint. She brought her magic and the sound came out as perfect as the CD.
Whoever did the sound and lights on both stages must have done their homework including the provision of heavy generators to enough power supply at the party.
Performance-wise, the Castle Tankard gig delighted fans with a variety of music including Victor Kunonga and Band Peace. Although Kunonga was the act at the VIP, he literally brought the roof down with his fine delivery.
Adam Chisvo deserves special mention for bringing his “swag” on the congas and mbira.
Among the audience in the VIP were Delta Beverages executives and board of directors who mingled with guests sharing food and drinks.
The Castle Tankard is the oldest sponsored horse race in Africa, which had been off the radar for the past three years.
Last year was sponsored by Spar and galloped under the name Spar Tankard with 14 horses accepting to go to the starting stalls, however, this year it was bigger and better with 21 horses on the line up.
Delta Beverages becomes one of the biggest investors in Zimbabwean sport as they also injected some money into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and the annual Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
