Redcliff municipality has embarked on an ambitious housing project that will see the local authority developing at least 20,000 stands in the next four years.
Redcliff Mayor, Councillor Fred Kapuya, said the exercise, dubbed Roll up Stands, is being carried out at Relin Farm just outside Redcliff Town.

Clr Kapuya said the new residential project was meant to increase the local authority’s revenue base as well as expand the steel manufacturing town.

“The exercise is meant to expand our town and increase the number of rate payers so that we do not rely on government funds in our operations.

“We have a target of developing and having sold 20,000 by 2018. Our target market are people in Redcliff and its hinterland. People from as far as Gweru are welcome. The council has lots of underutilised land which we are targeting for the project,” Clr Kapuya said.
Clr Kapuya said the project was the first of its kind in Redcliff.

He said the stands were affordable to allow more people to participate in the housing programme.
Said Clr Kapuya: “We are going to advertise the project in the press starting next week.

“We have three types of stands, plots, low density and high density. Our stands for plots will be up to 20,000 square metres in size and will cost $2, low density stands will cost $6 per square metre while high density stands are going for $4 per square metre”.
