Redcliff municipality is working on setting up its own water treatment plant for the first time in its history, mayor, Councillor Fred Kapuya has said.Clr Kapuya said yesterday the proposed water plant would alleviate the steel manufacturing town’s perennial water woes.

He said they were also working on ending the town’s total dependence on the City of Kwekwe for the provision of water to its residents.

Clr Kapuya said Redcliff was only getting water for seven hour per day; four hours in the morning and three hours in the evening.

“Our residents are only getting water for four hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. Our residents are disgruntled and becoming impatient over the water situation,” he said.

Clr Kapuya said the town has two water dams which council intends to utilise.

He said they were also carrying out a survey to establish the amount of underground water in their area.

“We expect the project to reduce water bills to our residents.  Instead of paying 80 cents per cubic metre as is the situation now, they will be paying 30 cents per cubic metre. We have carried out a feasibility study for the project and it is proving that it’s possible for us to carry out the project. We are in consultation with Zimbabwe National Water Authority and we’ve already engaged some engineering companies for the water project,” Clr Kapuya said.

Redcliff Town has two dams namely Cactus Port and Green Dam.
