CAPE to Cairo, a Bulawayo pub and restaurant famed for having waitresses who don skimpy uniforms, opens its doors to the public tomorrow after having closed last year for renovations.Cool Crooners, among many other artistes yet to be confirmed, are billed to provide entertainment at the opening. An official opening will, however, be held on February 14 with Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Walter Mzembi expected to the guest of honour.

A visit to the pub yesterday showed that the bar’s exterior which had a dull purple outlook has been spruced up with images of local artistes.

A courtyard bar has been introduced to cater for those that wish to enjoy their drinks and music while sitting and relaxing outside. Director of the pub Peter Mubi said their venue was particularly for mature revellers hence their decision to have security personnel who will ensure that those below 25 years are not be allowed into the pub.

“When we open, we’re also going to have tight security which will be strict on age groups, as we have no room for people below the age of 25,” Mubi said.

He said the joint will support jazz artistes  as most were now performing at churches because promoters and club owners  shunned them.

“Jazz artistes are now seeking refuge in churches as they have nowhere else to perform.  We’re going to give them a chance to showcase their talent as our music of choice is jazz.

“Hopefully by mid-year we’ll have purchased instruments so that artistes don’t go through the hassle of bringing their equipment to the pub, all they’ll need to do is to come and perform” said Mubi.
