Bekezela Nkomo with Mbo Mahocs

A simple story line easy to follow viewed on a crisp video with a universal theme of love, best sums up the music video for the South African Afro Soul hit Bekezela where Zimbabwean socialite Mbo Mahocs features.

The music video released two weeks ago has already garnered close to 25 000 views on YouTube with most people commending the beautiful cinematography that was applied.

Gwanda-born Bekezela Nkomo the man behind the runaway hit has been awed by the showers of praise by his fans for releasing a top quality video.

“Thank you people for the raving reviews of the video of Bekezela, let’s push it so that it gets to 100 000 views,” said Bekezela.

The music video fittingly blends in with why he wrote the song. He left his loved one in Zimbabwe for a better life in South Africa.

Although not shot in Zimbabwe, the storyline is relevant and the scenes vividly depict Bekezela in love with Mbo Mahocs – his love interest. All is rosy until the day he leaves for the big city. It seems his leaving is abrupt as there is no indication on the music video as to the reason he left and the news takes Mbo Mahocs by surprise leaving her inconsolable. Perhaps this shows how he left his loved one Zimbabwe for South Africa and the emotions his secret love went through when he left for the proverbial greener pastures.

When Bekezela shared his life’s journey, he said he was once a waiter and also a construction worker where he penned the tune that is making South Africa sing. All this is captured in scenes in the music video that was shot in Draakensburg, Kwazulu Natal and other parts of South Africa.

As the music and lyrics drive the storyline, Bekezela towards the end tries to return to his girlfriend who is waiting all dressed up in anticipation. Driving an old battered car with a friend, the car however along the way the car suffers a breakdown and his damsel waits and waits but to no avail with her face laden with sadness with the realisation that Bekezela will not make it back to her loving arms.

Possibly this also reveals that Bekezela’s work in South Africa is not finished and his loved one in Zimbabwe, whoever she is, has to wait a bit longer for her loved one to return.
