MASVINGO residents have hailed the Registrar General’s Office for exhibiting at this year’s Masvingo agricultural show which saw more than 30 people getting national identity cards and birth certificates for free.

The office which had two stands at the just ended annual agricultural show, was processing identity cards and birth certificates for free.

Residents who spoke to The Chronicle said they were happy with the job being done by the RG’s office.

This year’s annual provincial agricultural show was held under the theme, “Transforming and Sustaining Economic Growth”

“I have taken advantage of the show to get a new birth certificate for free. The old one was torn and I had to apply for a new one today,” said a Rujeko resident, Ms Mukai Mapamba.

Ward 8 councillor, Against Chiteme commended the RG’s office for taking advantage of the crowds to process IDs and birth certificates .

“We are aware Government has rolled out this programmes so that all legible voters can register under the ongoing biometric voter registration,” he said.
Government recently waived charges for IDs and birth cetificates.

Home Affairs Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo said the waiver was in response to a plea from the public that the charges were too exorbitant.—@walterbmswazie3
