BULAWAYO rugby enthusiasts are in for a treat when four teams battle to be crowned Matabeleland Rugby Football Board (MRFB) sevens rugby champions at Hartsfield ground.

Platinum Warriors, Matabeleland Warriors, Old Miltonians and the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) made it to the semi-finals, while Highlanders and Bulldogs dropped in the round robin stage.

MRFB board member in charge of development Martin Shone said: “All teams are geared up for the tournament. We expect to have a thrilling day of sevens rugby. The players are very excited to be getting game time after a long time without any competitive action.

“These tournaments play a pivotal role in the development of players, which is very important if we are to improve our rugby. We encourage fans to come in their numbers and witness some exhilarating rugby action.”

Defending champions Platinum Warriors will be seeking to retain their title and play Old Miltonians in the first semi-final, while Matabeleland Warriors and Nust meet in the second semis.

Losing semi-finalists will meet in the plate final, while Highlanders and Bulldogs will battle it out in the bowl final.

Winners of the competition will walk away with a floating shield, rugby balls and training equipment.

Sevens rugby has been on the rise in the country. The Zimbabwe sevens rugby team qualified for its third successive Sevens World Cup last                  month.

The team also secured a place at next year’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series core status qualifier at the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens. — @innocentskizoe.
