SAFEGUARD beat Anolle Castings 3-1 victory in a Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) clash at the Barbourfields Stadium outside grounds yesterday.

A brace by Mduduzi Mnkandla and Keith Chikami ensured victory for Safeguard while Anolle Castings got their consolation through Trust Sibanda.
Mnkandla opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game after connecting a Mduduzi Ncube cross.

In the 27th minute, Chikami broke through and came face-to-face with goalkeeper Courage Ndlovu. He unleashed a powerful strike, which Ndlovu failed to deal with and Chikami pounced onto the rebound to double Safeguard’s lead.

Mnkandla then made it three through a header five minutes before the break.

The second half saw both sides creating a couple of chances, but failing to convert.

Sibanda then scored the consolation in the dying stages of the match.

Safeguard coach Sibangilizwe Mpofu said he was proud of the way his troops performed from the onset, and was particularly impressed with how they choked Anolle Castings.

“I am very proud of the boys because we put a lot of pressure on our opponents and didn’t give them a lot of space or time on the ball.

“I think in terms of our tactical strategy today, it really worked well.

“What’s important are the points,” said Mpofu.

In other matches, Nga Chronicle held 10-man Rebels to a goalless draw. Rebels were reduced to 10 men when Nqobile Mhlanga’s clumsy challenge earned him his second yellow card.
