TWELVE primary schools from Bulawayo will compete in the third edition of the Baines Junior Dumisani Mankunzini Winter Cricket Festival which starts today and ends tomorrow.Hosts Baines Junior School won the first edition in 2012 and last year shared the first prize with Milton.

The competition which is getting bigger with each passing tournament started with four teams in 2012 and there were eight schools last year.

In an interview yesterday, former national Under-19 and Matabeleland Tuskers leg spin bowler Dumisani Mankunzini said all is set for the tournament and the schools that will be participating for the first time in the competition are Magwegwe, Imbizo, Induba and Mtshingwe.

Tennyson who took part in the first edition make a comeback replacing SOS and will, besides the new quartet, battle it out with Baines, Milton, McKeurtan, Khumalo, Nkulumane, Gampu and Mpumelelo.

Mankunzini said in the build up to the finals they sent qualified cricket coaches to schools so that all the teams are at least on the same level.

“Everything is set for the tournament and we wrapped up preparations with coaching clinics at schools on Wednesday.  We are looking forward to an interesting final as this year’s edition is bigger than the last two. We have managed to source    T-shirts for participating schools and it will be a fun-filled day for the whole family,” he said.

Before the final tomorrow, an exhibition game has been organised which will feature Matabeleland Tuskers players as well as invited guests like Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, Christopher Mpofu, Thabo Mboyi, Matabeleland Tuskers Cricket Franchise area manager Vumi Moyo, Arthur Mpuli, development coaches Trevor Phiri, Christopher Phiri, Titus Chipare and Mankunzini.
