THE Seventh-Day Adventist Church world leader Pastor Ted Wilson will deliver a farewell sermon to thousands of church members and other invited dignitaries at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo this afternoon.

Among the dignitaries will be Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, who is a devout Adventist.

Wilson has been in the country for the past two weeks conducting an evangelical crusade under the theme “Reaping God’s Harvest” in Chitungwiza.

The crusade was held parallel with a health seminar where thousands of people received free medical treatment and surgical operations for various ailments by dozens of local and international doctors and surgeons.

West Zimbabwe Conference president Pastor Qedumusa Mathonsi said the crusade marked the conclusion of the world church’s five-year gospel initiative dubbed “Mission to Cities”, that was launched in 2010.

“He (Wilson) has been in the country for the past two weeks conducting a gospel campaign in Chitungwiza. This campaign is happening across the country in 18 plus cities,” said Mathonsi.

“Cities are the launch pad of whatever is happening. Research has shown that there’s an increase in population growth in cities. If we’re to bring hope, the cities are our primary audience because that’s where most people reside.

“Wilson will conclude his crusade with a service in Harare in the morning before flying to Gweru for divine service between 11AM and 12 noon and then concluding with a sermon at Barbourfields in Bulawayo at around 2PM.

“As Adventists, we believe the health message and spirituality go hand in hand. We’ve invited people from all walks of life, including dignitaries such as VP Mphoko. Our church belongs to everyone and as such we invite all people,” said Mathonsi.

He added that the visit by Wilson was a significant honour to the church in Zimbabwe as this was his last major campaign ahead of the upcoming General Conference session — the church’s global leadership convention where the church’s new world leadership is chosen — to be held in the United States at the end of June.

“He’s the world president but he chose Zimbabwe and this is very important for us. As Adventists, we’ve a mandate to reveal hope that comes through Jesus Christ the coming King.

“This is meant to bring hope to people of all walks of life, healing in families and good health. We’re also distributing our book of the year titled: Health and Wellness — Secrets That Will Change Your Life. Everyone is welcome to our gathering regardless of denominational affiliation,” he said.
