A SECURITY guard in Plumtree has been fined $300 after he assaulted his wife at a salon over infidelity. Mlali Ndlovu, 36, who is employed by Peace Security Company, followed his wife Sithandazile Ndlovu, 28, to her workplace where he confronted her over the allegations. Ndlovu was convicted by Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa of physical abuse charges.

He was fined $300 or six months imprisonment if he defaults.

Ruvetsa condemned physical abuse within homesteads saying spouses needed to resolve their disputes amicably.

In his defence, Ndlovu told the court that his wife was no longer sleeping at home. He said his wife was disrespectful to him.

“My wife is disrespectful to me your Worship. She is being unfaithful and each time I confront her over the issue she doesn’t listen.

“As I speak she’s no longer staying at our matrimonial home and I don’t even know where she would be.

“She doesn’t tell me of her whereabouts anymore. I realised that the best time to confront her was when she was at her workplace,” he said.

Ndlovu, who pleaded with the court for leniency, said he was angry when his wife reacted rudely after he confronted her over her alleged infidelity.

The complainant, who denied being rude to her husband, told the court that Ndlovu was abusive which forced her to leave her matrimonial home.

She said her husband came to her workplace uninvited and beat her up for no apparent reason.

“I met my husband in town and he greeted me. I didn’t suspect anything. He later followed me to my workplace and demanded to talk to me but I ignored him.

“He then entered the salon and tried to pull me out by force but I resisted. He kicked me and punched me several times. My workmates tried to stop him but he became even more violent. They alerted a police officer who came to my rescue,” said Sithandazile.

Prosecuting, Jane Phiri said Ndlovu went to Gee Cee Boutique in Plumtree on April 10 and started assaulting his wife.

She said Ndlovu kicked his wife and punched her several times all over the body until her work mates ran out of the salon to seek help.

Phiri said the complainant reported the matter to the police resulting in Ndlovu’s arrest.
