FORMER Premiership outfit Shabanie Mine opened a two-point lead at the top of the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) after outclassing former leaders Blanket Mine 2-0 in their own backyard.

A Brian Rupapa goal in the 20th minute and a free kick by former Whawha midfielder, Jimmy Kanono was all the Chinda Boys needed to claim victory.

The asbestos miners have now amassed 15 points from six matches, two ahead of Ivan Hoe who shocked Whawha 3-0 at Whawha Complex.

While head coach Tendai Chikuni has said that he will take each game as it comes, many Shabanie Mine fans believe the championship is theirs to lose this season.

Elsewhere, MSU climbed to third place when they hammered visiting ZRP Gwanda 3-1 at the campus, a result which left head coach, John Phiri a relieved man after his side’s poor run in the opening games of the season.

“It’s good to be winning these games especially after we drew some of our crucial games. What we now need is to maintain consistency and see how things go at the end of the season. If we manage to get support I don’t see anything stopping us from achieving our goals,” said Phiri.

Tongogara, who had hit a rich vein of form, were stopped in their tracks when they were held to a goalless draw away to FC Platinum Under 19 at Mandava Stadium.

The draw by the army outfit was their second stalemate of this campaign and remains the only team together with MSU to taste defeat so far this season.

Gweru United recorded their first point of this campaign when they drew 1-1 with Nichrut at Ascot Stadium.
