ZIFA Central Soccer League champions Shabanie Mine conducted interviews yesterday to fill the post of head coach left vacant by the departure of Tendai Chikuni.

Chikuni joined the asbestos miners’ Midlands rivals Chapungu United.

The club received 10 CVs and five were thrown out for not meeting the requirements of a Premier Soccer League coach.

Shabanie Mine chairman Elias Marufu said the club had shortlisted two candidates that were interviewed yesterday.

“We are in the process of conducting our interviews today, but I am not at liberty to divulge the names of the two coaches until he (successful candidate) is unveiled on Wednesday,” said Marufu.

However, sources said former Chicken Inn coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu and former Hardbody and Ziscosteel coach Godfrey Tamirepi were the two that were interviewed yesterday.

Former Border Strikers’ coach Luke Masomere, John Phiri and Tom Ruzive were among those that applied for the job.

Marufu said soon after the appointment of the new coach, the club will start engaging players over new contracts.

Contracts of most Shabanie Mine players expired at the end of 2016.
