SHABANIE Mine’s untainted home record went up in smoke when they were shocked 0-1 by Nichrut at Maglas Stadium in a Central Soccer League fixture at the weekend. The asbestos miners failed to take advantage of Tongogara’s 2–4 loss to ZRP Beitbridge at Dulivhadzimu Stadium earlier and second placed Blanket Mine’s 0-0 draw to extend their lead at the top of the league table.

Nichrut’s win was the first by any team against the Chinda Boys at Maglas Stadium this season and the solitary goal was also the first to be conceded by the hosts at home this season. It was also the first match that Shabanie Mine had failed to score at home.

Shabanie Mine remain on 22 points from 11 matches, but their lead at the top has been cut to just one point by Blanket Mine, who drew 0-0 against MSU. Shabanie Mine coach Tendai Chikuni said it was still a long way to go in the season.

“The race for promotion is going to be a marathon and we will take each game as it comes. We knew that at some point we were going to drop points at Maglas, but that’s water under the bridge and we’ve to look forward to our next game now,” said Chikuni.

In other games, Jessie Mine continued with their fine home run after dispatching FC Platinum Under-19 2-0 to move out of the relegation zone while former Premiership side Whawha registered their fourth win of the season by edging Vumbachikwe 1-0.

Results: ZRP Beitbridge 4 – 2 Tongogara, Jessie Mine 2 – 0 FC Platinum U19, Vumbachikwe 0 – 1 Whawha, Kwekwe Sables 2 – 1 Gweru United, Ivan Hoe 0 – 0 ZPC Munyati, Shabanie Mine 0 – 1 Nichrut, Blanket Mine 0 – 0 MSU, Chrome Stars 1 – 1 ZRP Gwanda
