FORMER How Mine striker and Ajax Cape Town reject Simba Sithole could be joining Bulawayo giants Highlanders, it has been learnt.
Sithole, who joined the Cape Town based side in January this year after telling performances during the Chan tournament held in South Africa last year, was struck off the club’s books last week and told to look for a club of his choice.
He chose Highlanders.

“Simba spoke to members of the Highlanders technical bench and expressed his desire to join Bosso,” said a source close to the Bulawayo giants.

Bosso head of secretariat Ndumiso Gumede told Chronicle Sport that the their technical department had since briefed them about the player but as the administration, they were yet to make a decision ‘as there are a number of things we have to look at first.’

“Yes, the technical bench has briefed us about the player and they said if he was to come in he will add a different dimension to the team play. It was the general consensus that the player was not very skilled but is a deadly goal getter,” said Gumede.

Asked whether the player could turn out for Bosso before the season ends, the veteran administrator was non-committal.
“Technically we are over subscribed and if we are to bring in another player, then someone has to make way,” said Gumede.

Highlanders’ salary bill is paid by leading financial institution BancABC and the club might have to find other means to pay the extra player.

“We have not spoken to the player as yet because he is still in Cape Town as we understand he wants to get his dues first before coming back home,” said Gumede.

Fifa statutes demand that a player first has to be deregistered by the association in which his club is registered before he can be registered in another association.

The second Zimbabwean transfer window closed on July 31 but an out of contract player can still be registered outside the window.
Sithole became the fifth player from Zimbabwe to be offloaded in South Africa after his namesake Simba and Roderick Mutuma who rejoined Dynamos. The other two are Evans Gwekwerere and Highlanders’ Peter ‘Rio’ Moyo.
