A FAMILY from Bulawayo’s Sizinda suburb that was blessed with triplets recently is appealing for assistance to look after the children.

The family said it was struggling to raise the three children as the mother is not capable of breastfeeding them all without supplementary milk.

The triplets, two girls and a boy, are allegedly losing weight as a result of a shortage of supplementary milk.

The triplets’ mother, Cynthia Moyo, 29, said she was not aware that she was carrying triplets until she gave birth on January 29 at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Moyo told The Chronicle that she already had three children of school-going age with the eldest in Grade Seven.

The other two are in Grade Five and Grade Zero respectively.

She said she and her husband, Hloniphani Sibanda, had not been prepared for the children and were seeking assistance to support the family of six, especially the new born babies.

Both husband and wife are unemployed.

“I was in Lupane when I had some labour pains and I went to St Luke’s Hospital. That’s where I was told that I had triplets and I was referred to Mpilo hospital where I delivered my babies through an operation,” said Moyo. “I’ve three more children of school going age and life has become difficult as I don’t have any form of employment where I can get money to look after them,’’ said Moyo.

She appealed to well-wishers to help them with foodstuffs and clothes.

“We need things like baby milk, nappies and clothing for the children. I’m not in a position to breastfeed them all so the children need supplementary milk,’’ she said.

The children’s aunt, Otilia Sibanda, said the babies were gradually losing weight.

“At birth the babies were weighing 2,6 kgs and 2, 5 kgs for the boy and girls respectively. Now after check-up they’re 2, 1 and 2, 2 kgs. This is a sign that breastfeeding isn’t enough for the babies. We appeal for assistance in the form of supplementary milk and anything that can help us look after them,’’ said Otilia.

The triplets’ father, Sibanda, thanked God for blessing him with the triplets and asked Zimbabweans to come to their aid. Those who wish to donate can visit the family at House Number 7942/7 Sizinda suburb or contact the triplets’ mother on landline number 09-480534 or on mobile number 0775670685.
