THE Slovakian centre-back was cut by the studs of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, and had to be treated before heading a stoppage time equaliser. Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has revealed the wound suffered in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal – and the staples that have patched it up.

Skrtel was caught by the boot of Olivier Giroud during the match, and had to be bandaged up before returning to the fray and heading a stoppage time equaliser for the Reds.

The image shows the cut being held together by several staples, and is accompanied by a picture of the collision, as well as his header and subsequent celebration with team-mate Rickie Lambert.

Skrtel wrote alongside the collage: “Disappointing with the result but happy to scored that late goal and helped the team to get at least the point!”

Philippe Coutinho had given the Reds the lead late in the first half, before Mathieu Debuchy rose above Skrtel to equalise before the break.

Giroud lashed through the legs of keeper Brad Jones to give Arsenal the lead in the second period, before Skrtel’s bullet header deep into stoppage time rescued a point for Brendan Rodgers’ side. — Daily Mail
