BULAWAYO based commercial radio station Skyz Metro FM has created a website from which listeners will be able to listen to broadcasts through live streaming.

Broadcasting on 100.3FM to a 40KM radius of the city, the radio station’s website – www.skyzmetroradio.co.zw went live on Wednesday.

Brezhnev Mathonsi, the station’s head of sales and marketing said they introduced live streaming in order to cater for audiences out of Bulawayo.

“People in the Diaspora and outside Bulawayo requested that we live stream our broadcasts so they also tune in. We decided to follow international trends and launched the website which also has profiles of our presenters and their different programmes,” said Mathonsi.

The website’s home page has the live stream play button, Kasi Top 20 list, and shows the programme that will be airing at that particular time.
As one scrolls down the page, the station’s vision is explained before the presenters of the show are introduced as well as the programme schedule.

Mathonsi said they wanted to make the website as interactive as possible for listeners and artistes.

“We want people to interact with the website as much as possible. There’s a ‘Submit your Music’ tab where if one clicks it’ll lead artistes to an email where they can send their music. The other feature is a chat window which when online, a person can send a shout out or ask questions and get an immediate response,” said Mathonsi.

So far, the station which started broadcasting last month has programmes like The Vuka Vuka breakfast show presented by Babongile Sikhonjwa and Zwa, The Vibe with BK and Kya Drastiq, Byo Top Shots – Mjoks and TKP, Singabantu Banye – Daniel Kulube and Manurse and Morning Gospel with Lesley Phiri.
