Soccer stars selection on today DIFFERENT BALL GAME AHEAD: Tsholotsho FC players and supporters celebrate the club’s promotion into the Premier Soccer League

A PANEL of football journalists, coaches and team captains will this morning converge in Harare to select the outstanding players, the best coach, goalkeeper and the rookie of the year during the 2015 Castle Lager Premiership season. While the top goal scorer’s award is known to be going to Knox Mutizwa of Highlanders with 14 Premiership goals, all the other winners will be unveiled at a function on Friday night. The Soccer Star of the Year, his two runners-up, the Coach of the Year and the Goalkeeper of the Year will only be unveiled at that special banquet in Harare .

There are several players that were outstanding during the season but will not be eligible for selection due to strict discipline rules that govern the process of selection. Selection rules state that a player who accumulates six or more yellow cards, or two straight red cards, is ineligible for selection.

Also not considered are players who would have been convicted before the PSL disciplinary committee. Some of the players that are tipped for the crown include champions Chicken Inn captain Danny Phiri who is widely tipped to win. Phiri also captained the Warriors as they qualified for the Chan finals in Rwanda next January with the defensive midfielder proving consistent this season.

But he might not be the only player from Chicken Inn to make it among the best 11 this year, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, striker Edmore Chirambadare and midfielder Clemence Matawu were also outstanding for the Bulawayo club.

Dynamos defender Ocean Mushure led from the back in a season where he held fort in a number of games as the stand in skipper in the absence of Augustine Mbara who has struggled with an injury this season while his teammate and midfielder Stephen Alimenda is ineligible after he was convicted and fined by the Disciplinary Committee for his questionable behaviour.

FC Platinum’s Brian Muzondiwa and the Young Warriors duo of Walter Musona and Wisdom Mutasa could find themselves on the calendar despite the fact that Musona and Mutasa left for Europe during the campaign. ZPC Kariba midfielder Raphael Manuvire, the Caps United duo of Stephen Makatuka and Dominic Mukandi, Mutizwa, Triangle striker Hillary Bakacheza, and Harare City defender Themba Ndlovu also did well.

Ineligible Players: Kelvin Kutandika (Dongo Sawmill), Vimbai Madamombe (Whawha), Thabani Goredema (Chicken Inn), Evans Chikwaikwai (Dongo Sawmill), Sydney Linyama (Dynamos), Steven Alimenda (Dynamos), Nqobizitha Masuku (Highlanders), Livingstone Genti (Whawha), Shepherd Nkatha (Buffaloes), Tineyi Chitora (Chapungu), Passmore Bernard (Chicken Inn), Derrick Chitsanzara (Dongo Sawmill), Kudzai Chideu (Dongo Sawmill), Gift Bello (FC Platinum), Winstone Mhango (FC Platinum), Marshal Machazane (Whawha), Blessing Zabula (Chapungu). — Sportszone
