A 23-YEAR-OLD soldier based in Harare has been arrested for allegedly having sex with his wife’s 14-year-old sister. The soldier, who cannot be named, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo at the Western Commonage courts facing a rape charge.

He was remanded out of custody to February 13 on $100 bail.

The man allegedly proposed love to the juvenile before asking her to have sexual intercourse with him in a bushy area near D-Square in Njube.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza, told how sometime in September 2014 the girl had visited her sister when the soldier proposed love to her.

She accepted his proposal.

Mageza said in November of the same year, the girl visited the soldier at his place of residence in Mabuthweni.

While there, the suspect asked the juvenile to accompany him for a walk, the court heard.

It is alleged on the way they sat near a bushy area in Njube where the soldier asked for sexual favours.

The girl allegedly complied.

The court heard that the matter came to light when the girl’s grandmother discovered that she was pregnant.

She interrogated the girl who disclosed that she had slept with her brother in-law.

The grandmother reported the matter to the police leading to the soldier’s arrest.

Magistrate Moyo ordered the suspect to report at Cranborne Police Station in Harare every Friday.

He also told him to reside at Old Cranborne 2 Brigade until the matter is finalised.
