CONTROVERSY continues to follow popular dancehall chanter Souljah Love as he was arrested minutes before he could perform at the much-hyped Gweru dancehall bash at the weekend at Musopero Liquid Lounge.

His demons seemed to have come back to haunt him after he was arrested for reportedly damaging property at Mbizo Night Club after a show in Kwekwe three weeks ago. The promoter of the show reported him to Kwekwe police and Souljah Love has been on their wanted list.

Partson Chimbodza, the show organiser said it was unfortunate that after travelling all the way from Harare to perform in Gweru, Souljah Love was arrested and taken to Kwekwe.

“I can confirm that Souljah Love couldn’t perform at the show because he was arrested. Just when he got into Gweru he was picked up by police for questioning pertaining to a crime that he allegedly committed in Kwekwe,” said Chimbodza.

He said Souljah Love performed at a Kwekwe joint last month but fell out with the promoter after he was asked to return to the stage after his scheduled time.

Chimbodza said as a result, Souljah Love allegedly damaged some doors as he forced his way out of the Kwekwe joint.

“Souljah Love performed in Kwekwe recently and had a fall-out with the music promoter after the latter demanded that he performs again after the agreed one hour performance. So the artiste forced his way out of the joint and was reported to the police for damaging property,” he said.

Chimbodza said the Gweru matter was later resolved allowing Souljah Love to proceed to Harare where he performed at Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe at the HICC in Harare on Saturday.

The artiste had earlier been paraded in Gweru on Saturday afternoon as the promoter, Chipaz Sound International wanted the fans to see that their favourite artiste was indeed in the Midlands capital and was going to perform.

But when it was time for him to go on stage amid great expectations from the fans that had parted with $5 entry fee, Souljah Love was nowhere to be seen.

Business was temporarily brought to a halt as rowdy revellers turned militant and started throwing cans on the stage demanding “Chibaba”, as the controversial chanter is lovingly known by his adoring fans, to perform.

Chipaz promotions manager, only identified as Nicky, brought things to normalcy a few minutes later after successfully calming the crowd.

However, Biggy-man aka Winky D and Killer T stole the show with five-star performances.

Killer T, the “Chairman” was first on stage clad in a black and white jersey and tight black pants and proved that he was a force to reckon with, as he put up a scintillating performance.

Fans sang along hits from his latest album that include Takumbofarao Kani, Chikorobho, Shamwari Chaidzo and Hifa.

Winky D also kept fans on their feet and performed songs that included Ninja gear and Bhachi ne jean.
