BULAWAYO sound enthusiasts are expected to throng Victoria Falls Road Racing Circuit on Saturday.
The Bulawayo Motoring Club will host its ever popular Sound Off which is expected to attract a sizeable crowd.BMC vice-chairman Zane Shah said that the event would be open to the public and confirmed that there could be some foreigners taking part.

“Sound Off and Car Show is a general public event not restricted to racers and we are expecting more people to participate this time around. We are also expecting participants from Botswana,” said Shah.

In the competition, a sound pressure level meter is used to determine the reading of the car. The meter is placed on the window shield with windows closed and when it starts you crank the volume to maximum.

Shah said the Sound Off competition would have six categories namely the eight inch, 10 inch, 12 single, 12 inch double, 15 inch and open class depending on the size of the sub-woofer. He also added that a decibel (DB) instrument will be used to measure sound pressure level and the woofer that records the loudest sound will be declared the winner.

Shah said entries are still open but they expect a lot of competitors from Bulawayo and Botswana at the social event.

Participants will be required to pay $10 entrance fee.

“I encourage those who have their cars who want to show off with their sub woofers to come and do it at the race course not to make noise on the streets.

“It’s open to everyone. There are no restrictions, it will be just a family fun day,” said Shah.

There will also be a car show, where drivers will get a chance to display their cars in five categories, classic and vintage, sports and saloon, customised, bakkies class as well as bikes. The public will get to vote for the winner in each category.

The racing club hosted a similar event at the beginning of the year.
