THE Zifa Southern Region will hold a stars’ awards function at which the region’s top 11 players and coach of the year will be honoured on Sunday.
Southern Region boss Musa Mandaza said the awards afternoon will be held soon after the inaugural Liquor Hub 10KM Fun Race and 5KM Charity

Walk that is bankrolled by Bulawayo businessman Raj Modi, who is also the league’s patron.

“We are all looking forward to the day. It’s going to be a fun filled event as we honour our most outstanding players as well as the best coach in the league,” said Mandaza, who could be officiating at his last official event as Southern Region boss as he is among the favourites to land a place on the Zifa board in the December 5 elections.

He said besides the 11 stars, the league will also honour its footballer of the year, his two runners-up and top goal scorer.

Mandaza said the leadership entrusted the process of selecting winners to clubs “as the media rarely covers our matches and so to be fair to the system, we asked clubs to do the selection themselves”.

Last year, then Tsholotsho hitman Edmore Chirambadare was voted the league’s player of the year and also scooped the Golden Boot award.

“We are excited that our player of the year went on to light the Premiership and is now a Premiership champion. This shows that our selection was above board. I would like to urge coaches to cast their nets in the direction of our league as there is talent there without any doubt,” said Mandaza.
