LONDON – Christian Eriksen scored twice as Tottenham came from behind to record a sensational win over Southampton yesterday afternoon.
The away side flew into a 2-0 goal lead thanks to goals from Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana, but Tim Sherwood’s side reacted well, Gylfi Sigurdsson eventually netting an injury-time winner at White Hart Lane.
In-form striker Emmanuel Adebayor missed out with injury, meaning Roberto Soldado led the line for Sherwood’s side. Mousa Dembele was fit to return, however. There was no Morgan  Schneiderlin for the visitors, so James Ward-Prowse started in midfield.

Saints started on the front foot and soon got the reward for their early pressure. Kyle Naughton misjudged a high ball, allowing Rodriguez to nip and race in on goal. The striker kept his cool to angle a fine shot past Hugo Lloris and into the far corner.

The away side were absolutely flying and got their second just before the half-hour mark. Naughton was the culprit again, swiping at a clearance and allowing Rickie Lambert to slide in Lallana. The midfielder made no mistake with his left-footed finish.

Soon after, though, it was Southampton’s turn to give a sloppy goal away. Nathaniel Clyne looked well placed to deal with a cross from the right, but the ball squirmed under his foot and into the path of Eriksen.

The Dane accepted the gift, firing in at the near post to get Spurs back into the game.
Further chances fell to Lallana and Eriksen before the interval, but Saints would head into the changing rooms with a 2-1 lead.

The second half was less than a minute old when Spurs restored parity. In a game of defensive errors, it was Dejan Lovren’s turn to hang his head in shame. The centre-back was muscled off the ball by Soldado, whose slide-rule cross was tapped in by Eriksen at the far post.

Spurs enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the second period, pushing Southampton deeper and deeper as the half wore on. Substitute Sigurdsson would pop up with the winner, rifling home from 25 yards to seal a memorable comeback. — Mirror
