THE Zim Hip Hop Awards are on tonight and the red carpet for the event will be rolled out in Bulawayo for the first time in the award’s seven-year existence.

The venue, the Zimbabwe Music Academy, aptly represents the core of the awards, a celebration of music.

A live stream of the red carpet will be broadcast through the Zim Hip Hop awards page from 6PM to 7PM when the ceremony starts with hip-hop artistes from across the country set to attend the event.

As with any awards ceremony, the red carpet this year will be hosted by presenter, Lelo Moyo and will be the centre of attraction as celebs from the local hip hop fraternity will congregate to outshine each other with their outfits.

The fashion police, being the Byo Bloggers Association, will be out with their pens and scorecards to judge who is the best dressed male or female on the night. Online television station Onvi Tv and Early Entertainment will also be on the red carpet interviewing people.

“I am Hip Hop” is the theme this year and artistes will be expected to embrace the identity of hip hop. Hip-hop culture encompasses graffiti art, MCing/rapping, DJing and b-boying and these are expected to be seen in full bloom on stage tonight.

The hosts of the event, rappers Cal_Vin and ASAPH, will welcome visitors to the City of Kings and Queens while performances will be from Guluva7, Indigo Saint, McChita, Antivirus, Tebza, Mluejay, TulkMunny and KorruptKing.

Previous award nights have seen thrills and spills, drama, shock, and horror adding to the feverish atmosphere at the venue and tonight, nothing less is expected. Beefs and diss tracks have been released after the awards with some rappers believing that they had been cheated and winners did not deserve.

One of the organisers of the awards Elder Mohawk said all was set. “Everything is on track and we’re ready to host the awards. Most nominees have confirmed that they’re coming to Bulawayo,” said Mohawk.

He said tickets have been selling fast and they are happy with the response from Bulawayo.

An after-party has been scheduled for Club Connect where winners will celebrate their triumphs.
