An allegedly stingy Harare man reportedly gives his family US$2 a day for its upkeep and has told his wife to look for another husband if the money is not enough.
Susan Mahere, a policewoman, yesterday told the Harare Magistrates’ Civil Court that she wanted a protection order against her allegedly abusive husband, Nickson.
“I am legally married to him and problems arose when he started going out with another lady.
“He leaves US$2 at home saying that’s what he can afford, but has a lot of cash.
“He said if I am not satisfied I should look for another husband,” she said.
The court heard that Susan’s hearing is now impaired because of the alleged physical attacks.
“At one time we were going to Mutare and he dragged me on the tarred road.
“I sustained some injuries as a result of that and now I cannot hear,” she said.
The court heard that Nickson comes home late and brings lunch boxes from his alleged lover.
Nickson denied the allegations arguing that Susan was a problem when drunk.
“I never dragged her on the tar but she is a problem when she is drunk, she is very aggressive.
“When we were on our way to Mutare,             she asked to relieve herself and when                she got into the bush she tried to commit suicide.
“Some people saw her with a rope around her neck and that’s when they dragged her,” he said.
Magistrate Ms Barbra Chimboza heard  the matter and granted the protection              order barring the husband from abusing his wife.
