Hwange 2 -2 Dongo Sawmill

HWANGE came from behind twice to salvage a point from stubborn Dongo Sawmill at the Colliery Stadium yesterday.

Soccer Star of the Year finalist Evans Rusike was the saviour for the struggling coal miners.

He came up with the first meaningful chance for Hwange in the 4th minute as he forced a corner off a Dongo Sawmill defender.

A Dongo Sawmill defender nearly gifted Hwange an early lead when he headed over his advancing goalkeeper Forward Pfumojena, only for the alert ‘keeper to race back to save.

In an encounter that had the coal miners dominating play in the early stages, it was the visitors who grabbed the lead through exciting Lawrence Masibera in the ninth minute

Moments after Dongo Sawmill’s opener, Hwange took turns to miss chances.

In the 22nd minute Tonisani Sibelo’s freekick forced a save from Pfumojena.

Hwange’s Isaac Masame’s ferocious effort hit the post after a neat delivery from Prichard Mphelele.

The footballing gods finally smiled on Hwange as Rusike roasted a number of defenders to release a shot that went under Pfumojena, into the back of the net.

The second stanza began with Masibera nearly punishing the complacent Hwange defenders with a run down the right flank that resulted in a wasted corner for the visitors.

Proving that they had come for maximum points, the visitors got the lead through Physwel Madhazi.

With Dongo looking to carry the three points back to Rusape, Rusike had other ideas as he pounced on a loose ball missed by Pfumojena to add Hwange’s second, his brace.

Madhazi later received his marching orders for a second bookable offence for time wasting.

“We were coming for a win while they came for a draw, which derailed the game.

“Otherwise we’re building up from here, results will come,” said Chenjerai Dube, the Hwange assistant coach.

Dongo coach Shadreck “Father” Mugurasave was not amused by his player’s expulsion.

“We’re generally happy with the performance, but Madhazi’s sending off was dubious,” said Mugurasave.
