ORCHESTRA Dendera Kings maestro Sulumani Chimbetu gave a mouth-watering display that left fans asking for more when he performed at the inaugural Chiredzi Arts Festival on Sunday.

The artiste kept fans spellbound with his beat as he churned out old and new songs including his late father, Simon’s Ndarangarira Gamba, Newspaper and One Way.

But before Sulu, Nicholas Zacharia had treated fans to a well-polished performance.

On Friday, Progress Chipfumo exhibited his artistry on the guitar much to the excitement of the entertainment-starved fans.

Tokwe Mukorsi, a song which Chipfumo coined in remembrance of families affected by floods during Tokwe Mukorsi Dam flood disaster, was a hit. Some fans were spotted mobbing the Harare-based singer and guitarist for handshakes.

Reggae musician, Trevor Hall also gave a scintillating performance.

Kalabash, real name Artwell Kwenda, brought the house down with his dancehall beat.

On Saturday, festival goers had been treated to entertainment from Tocky Vibes who attracted a full house and relatively, did not disappoint.

He churned out a number of danceable tunes but, it was Tocky Waenda Nenyika which stole the hearts of many.

The artistes performed at three different venues including Triangle, Chiredzi Civic Centre and Chishamiso Stadium. Other artistes who performed include Dino Mudondo, Tambaoga and several up-and-coming coming musicians from Chiredzi and surrounding areas.

Festival spokesperson Mike Hove said the event was a resounding success.

“The main idea is to support up-and-coming artistes from Chiredzi and I’m happy we achieved that. Some up-and-coming groups were identified through the festival and are going to be promoted so that they fulfil their dreams,” Hove said.
