FORMER Highlanders captain and assistant coach Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu yesterday began his official duties as How Mine assistant coach by taking the team through their training session ahead of the arrival of head coach Kelvin Kaindu.

Kaindu was in Triangle yesterday clearing his issues with the authorities. The Zambian, it has since emerged, gave the Sugarcane growers a three months’ notice from November last year and has since served two months, meaning he will now buy out the remaining one month.

Efforts to get comment from the gold miners’ chairman Paul Mac Andrew on the latest developments were fruitless but sources confirmed that Ndlovu, who was head coach at the Zifa Southern Region Division One side, Indlovu Iyanyathela last season, took the boys through their paces.

Some players who spoke to Chronicle Sport also confirmed that Ndlovu was in charge of their session yesterday.

“Super (Bekithemba) was in charge of our session and we understand coach Kaindu is joining us next week,” said the player.

Ndlovu and Kaindu worked together at Highlanders before their unceremonious departure, albeit individually.

Co-caretaker coaches Sheunesu Chaka and Jeremiah Makota have been conducting the team’s pre-season training.

Meanwhile, another former Highlanders player, retired goalkeeper Johannes Tshuma is also reportedly set to join the How Mine technical bench as goalkeepers’ coach, after Tembo Chokri Chuma, who was initially Kaindu’s preferred choice chose to remain with Triangle United.

Tshuma has been in the wilderness for sometime now although he was once in charge of a lower league side in Filabusi.

His coaching highlight was just after the turn of the millennium when he was head coach at then Zesa (Hwange) now ZPC (Hwange). He almost took the team, playing in the Zifa Southern Region Division One, into the Premier Soccer League only to be derailed by some administrative squabbles at the power utility company.

In frustration Tshuma threw in the towel.
