AN increase in cases of women sexually abusing boys and infecting them with venereal diseases has prompted police to rope in parents in the fight against the trend. National Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday said parents should talk with their children openly about sexual abuse. He said they should educate them not to be lured by little items like food as they risk being sexually abused. “Of late there has been a rapid increase in aggravated indecent assault cases and parents need to conscientise their children so that they don’t fall prey to women who infect them with diseases,” said Chief Supt Nyathi. He said police are investigating a case in which a 37 year old woman enticed a 14 year old boy into her bedroom and had unprotected sexual intercourse with him without his consent in Kariba.

“On August17, 2015, at around 9PM the boy was at his parent’s house when the woman arrived and invited him to collect some crocodile meat from her house. The boy followed and the woman requested him to get inside and select an appropriate portion on his own,” said the national police spokesperson. When the boy entered the house, said Chief Supt Nyathi, the woman closed the door, removed her clothes and undressed the boy.

He said the woman started playing a pornographic video on her television set. “The lady then grabbed the boy’s head, dragged him to the floor and laid herself on top of the boy and started having sexual intercourse with him,” said Chief Supt Nyathi. He said the woman ordered the boy to leave and not to reveal the matter to anyone. Chief Supt Nyathi said the case was reported to the police after the boy realised that he had been infected with a sexually transmitted disease.

He said: “The woman was arrested and is assisting the police with investigations. We’re urging parents to educate and watch over their children as they’re being exposed to bigger problems such STI and HIV and Aids.” A local traditional healer attributed the increased sexually abuse of young boys to “dangerous advice from fake traditional healers.”

“They make their clients pay a lot of money and promise to heal them of STIs including HIV and Aids if they’ve sex with virgins. They then select young boys that they believe have never had sex,” said the traditional healer. Last month a 45 year old prostitute from Masvingo forced a boy, 6, to have sex with her and infected him with an STI.

She was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. In another case, a 26 year old Tsholotsho maid allegedly sexually abused her employer’s 14 year old relative and infected him with an STI. Last week, an 18 year old maid from Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb was sentenced to 10 years in prison for forcing her employer’s two year old son to have sex with her.

In June, an 18 year old Gweru maid allegedly forced a two year old to have sex with her.

She is awaiting sentence.
