FORMER Tsholotsho FC head coach Lizwe Sweswe has travelled with his new paymasters FC Platinum for a pre-season camp in South Africa.

The ambitious Zvishavane-based outfit flew out of the country on Wednesday to kick start their 2017 Premier Soccer League preparations in style.

While FC Platinum officials could not be reached for comment, players who spoke to Chronicle Sport from South Africa yesterday confirmed that they had travelled with Sweswe, who tendered his resignation letter as Tsholotsho head coach on Tuesday morning.

“He (Sweswe) is here; we travelled with him and he is one of our assistant coaches, so we have been told,” said the player.

Sources said Sweswe will be co-assistant coach with Patrick Mandizha, with both reporting to head coach Norman Mapeza, while Daniel Vheremu will also continue as player assistant coach.

“Sweswe will be on a three months’ probation to see his technical prowess, but I think it’s just a formality as he is a proven game reader,” said a source.

Club media liaison officer Chido Chizondo could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Sweswe becomes the second head coach to take up an assistant coach’s post after former Highlanders mentor Bongani Mafu, who became Sweswe’s assistant following his unsuccessful stint with the Bulawayo giants.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum held their first training session yesterday morning as they await confirmation of opponents they will play as part of their preparations.

They will remain in Johannesburg for three weeks.
