ASSISTANT coach of newly crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum, Lizwe Sweswe, will stay at the Zvishavane-based club for another year.

Sweswe joined FC Platinum on a one-year contract at the beginning of the 2017 season.

FC Platinum media liaison officer Chido Chizondo said Sweswe will continue assisting head coach Norman Mapeza.

“Sweswe will be staying with us for another season as we renewed his contract in July. He is the man who helped us win the league, so we intend to keep him,” Chizondo said.

Sweswe guided Tsholotsho FC to their maiden Premiership appearance in 2015 before joining Pure Platinum Play at the beginning of this season.

Sweswe said he was excited by the faith the club had shown in him and he would work harder to ensure they defend the league title.

“I am very happy that the club afforded me another opportunity to prove my worth. It’s a good thing for me, as I am gaining more experience because it is the dream of any coach to win the league,” said Sweswe.

He said the 2018 season will be congested, as they will also be taking part in the Caf Champions League.

“What is left now is for us to defend the title and we will work hard to retain it next season. It’s not going to be easy, but as a team we will do our best,” he said.

FC Platinum made history by becoming the first team from outside Harare and Bulawayo to lift the Premiership title after dismissing Chapungu 2-0 at Ascot Stadium in Gweru last Saturday.

The Zvishavane outfit finished the season with 72 points, while second-placed Dynamos managed 70.
