ACOUSTIC musician Tariro Negitare serenaded Bulawayo fans on Friday night as she staged an intimate show that was topped off with a special dedication to a couple who were celebrating their anniversary.

Performing in front of a sizeable crowd at Rainbow Hotel, Tariro Negitare, who can be hired to sing for a loved one, gave the crowd a taste of what she could do.

Singing “Mawara”, a song about a woman expressing her love to a man, she had those romantics in the crowd teary eyed. Poet Lady Tshawe was called up on stage by Tariro Negitare to do a freestyle which she did with aplomb.

In line with the theme of the show, “Up Close & Personal with Tariro Negitare”, fans had a chance to request songs from the musician who obliged.

Sing along songs such as Chitima, Wildfire and Ndokuda Iwe off her debut album Tariro Negitare, were popular among the fans in the room.

Of interest during her performance was the introduction of people to a new element to her show which was a loop station which created an illusion she was a one woman orchestra.

Singing Solomon Linda’s Mbube, she would sing different parts of the song and the loop station would play them back as she built up the song.

Using the foot pedal to mix the different parts, Tariro Negitare would sing over them.

Before her performance, up and coming artiste Carlos Jiri gave a sterling performance as the Creme Voices singer announced his arrival on the music scene.

Jiri was backed by the Outfit Band and showed that he is a force to be reckoned with as he delivered soothing music with his energetic voice.

After the show Tariro Negitare, who has been doing dedication videos and personal performances for couples during their celebrations for the past three years, said the experience had been amazing.

“I enjoy sharing such precious moments with couples. I’m also honoured that people want me to be part of their special occasions, be it weddings, anniversaries or birthdays,” said Tariro Negitare.

She said out of all the performances for couples, two have stood out for her.

“The most memorable one was when the man bought a car for his wife for Valentine’s Day. I won’t forget the look of surprise on her face and the feeling of shock as I played away.

‘‘The most awkward was when I was hired by two different women to sing for one man. When I got there for the second time, he laughed and I laughed and carried on with my business,” said Tariro Negitare.
