before fatally striking another with a stone.
Obey Zhou (33), who teaches at Runene Secondary School in rural Chinhoyi, appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mr Alex Shumba facing two counts of murder and was remanded in custody to March 30.
He also allegedly injured several other people.
Three other villagers are reportedly battling for their lives at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital and Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.
One of his alleged victims sustained serious injuries to the head and private parts.
Allegations are that in the early hours of Sunday morning, Zhou started behaving “strangely”.
People he encountered in the village fled from him as he tried to attack them uprovoked, it is alleged.
The State says he entered Iman Zulu’s bedroom hut at his homestead in Musawazi Village at around 5am while the la- tter was sleeping and crept into his blankets.
Zulu sensed the intrusion and asked what was going on, it is alleged.
Zhou reportedly left the room and returned armed with a hoe with which he then reportedly struck Zulu several times and carried on even when he had lost consciousness.
Zulu’s head was severed from his torso, the court was told.
Zhou then allegedly proceeded to Dunmore Mutirori’s nearby homestead and attacked him, this time with a log, all over the body.
Mutirori was taken to Chinhoyi Hospital before being transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died soon afterwards.
The State says Mutirori succumbed to head injuries.
It is alleged that Zhou continued on his rampage and this time used a rock to strike other villagers whom he seriously injured.
Prosecutor Miss Farai Zachariah opposed bail saying Zhou was a threat to society and had exhibited shocking agg-ression.
She said he only stopped being violent when he was handcuffed by the police.
Magistrate Mr Shumba said Zhou should be examined by at least two medical doctors before his next court appearance to determine his mental stability.
