AN 18-year-old man yesterday breathed a sigh of relief after he was acquitted of attempted murder.

Kholwani Moyo, allegedly stabbed Dema Tshuma whom he helped to paint a homestead in Mathokhonye area.

Regional magistrate Chrispen Mberewere said the state led by Trust Muduma had failed to prove that Moyo stabbed Tshuma once on the chest thereby endangering his life.

“In coming up with judgment, the court considered evidence that was presented and it’s clear that Moyo didn’t commit the alleged offence. He’s therefore acquitted and discharged,” said magistrate Mberewere to the joy of Moyo’s sister who shed tears.

Muduma was alleging that Moyo approached Tshuma who was painting a kitchen wall around 9PM on December 16, last year.

“Moyo volunteered to help and the two painted the wall and finished on the same day. Tshuma was paid instantly and Moyo demanded that he clears an outstanding debt,” said Muduma.

“Tshuma refused to settle the debt and advised Moyo to collect his money later at his homestead. Moyo was angered by the decision and went to his homestead.”

He came back armed with a kitchen knife and stabbed Tshuma once.

“Moyo stabbed Tshuma once on the chest and fled. Tshuma was rushed to Mayobodo Hospital by a well-wisher and Moyo was later arrested,” said Muduma.
