A HLANGABEZA High School pupil and his two friends allegedly lured a Bulawayo man to a secluded spot and robbed him of $400 and a wallet.

Two of the boys are aged 16 while the other is 17-years-old.

The minors yesterday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa- Marondedze charged with robbery.

They all pleaded guilty to the charge and the matter was placed off remand because of the opening of schools.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on April 26 at around 2AM at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds, Simbarashe Chikuri was looking for a taxi to hire and go home.

“Chikuri met the three boys and inquired where he could get a taxi,” said Dlodlo.

The court heard that the boys told Chikuri to follow them claiming that they were going to show him a place where taxi drivers parked.

Dlodlo told the court that Chikuri followed them into a dark corner of the street.

“One of the boys covered Chikuri’s mouth tightly using his palm and the others held his hands behind his back before searching his pockets,” he said.

The boys, the court heard, took Chikuri’s wallet which contained $400, a Class 2 driver’s licence, passport and his defensive driving certificate.

The court heard that the three boys fled in different directions into the darkness but Chikuri gave chase and caught one of them.

“He took the boy to Bulawayo Central Police Station and the boy led police to his accomplices,” said Dlodlo.

Meanwhile, a Sobukhazi High school pupil before the same magistrate charged with possessing property reasonably suspected to be stolen.

Evans Gumbo, 19, pleaded guilty to the charge before being cautioned and discharged. Nkathazo Dlodlo, prosecuting, told the court that Gumbo was found in possession of a Huawei mobile phone that he claimed was given to him by his friend.

The court heard that the mobile phone was inside a satchel and had no sim card.
