A TEENAGE wife allegedly hanged herself in her bedroom hut at her in-laws” home in Lupane.

Sthandazile Ncube, 17, of Mabhonobona village under chief Mabhikwa, allegedly took her own life using a rope in her bedroom hut at around 6 AM on Saturday.

Her husband, Sikhumbuzo Mhlanga, left his wife in bed as he left for the fields in the company of his mother.

The deceased’s mother-in-law, Sdudla Mhlanga, said they found Ncube dead when they returned from the fields.

“He had left his wife in bed after she told him she was not feeling well. Upon his return after a few hours, he found his wife kneeling on their bed with a rope around her neck,” she said.

Sdudla said she was at a loss as to what could have led her daughter in law to take her own life.

“They did not have any problems that I know of which could have driven her into killing herself. The body has been ferried to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem and we hope this will help us determine the cause of death. The fact that she died kneeling on the bed with a rope on her neck is a bit puzzling,” she said.

Chief Mabikwa said he was concerned with the number of suicide incidents in his area.

Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson Sergeant Namatirai Mashona was not reachable for comment.
