TELOne has said it is pushing to establish 1 000 internet hotspots in the country from the current 250.

Speaking in an interview yesterday after donating 100 bins to the City of Bulawayo, TelOne managing director Ms Chipo Mtasa said the company was also working on developing its own application usable on smart phones.

“We hope to have established more than 1000 hotspots countywide which in turn will increase the number of people who will access internet,” she said.

On their donation to the BCC, Ms Mtasa said supporting environmental management was one of the key thematic areas in their Corporate Social Investment.

“At TelOne we are not just about providing communication solutions but also about connecting the community and establishing lasting relationships through services and giving back,” she said.

“We have been recycling oil drums and poles recovered from our operational sites to make the bins.”

Bulawayo acting mayor Councillor Silas Chigora said the city can only improve in cleanliness if corporates and residents join in the drive like what TelOne had done.

“We are currently implementing the Bulawayo Solid Waste Improvement Platform initiative which is a combined effort from residents, Government, the civic sector and the business community.

“The bin coverage in the Central Business District is about 60 percent and the donation will improve the number or receptacles in the city. We therefore appreciate the kind gesture and implore residents to utilise the bins that have been donated,” said Clr Chigora. — @thamamoe
