A MAN from Bulawayo, who allegedly stole bicycles and clothes from his neighbours, was arrested after police found his wife wearing some of the stolen clothes.

A court heard the man stole two bicycles at a house in Nkulumane suburb and clothes at another.

Andreas Khanye (25) pleaded not guilty to unlawful entry, theft and being found in possession of stolen property.

Western Commonage Magistrate Miss Tancy Dube remanded him in custody to tomorrow, August 1 and August 2 when he will be tried separately for the charges.

Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira said on June 22 Khanye stole two mountain bicycles from his neighbour.

She said he stole clothes and a washing basket from the same neighbourhood.

“Police officers were given a tip off.  The bicycles were found at accused person’s house,” said Ms Takawira.

She added, “On July 14, accused person broke into Loveness Nyathi’s house where he stole clothes that were in a washing basket in the bathroom and also took some that were on the washing line. Upon investigations the accused person’s wife was found wearing some of the stolen clothes.”

Khanye will appear in court for trial tomorrow for being found in possession of the stolen clothes.

On August 1 he will appear for theft of bicycles and on August 2 for unlawful entry into Nyathi’s house.

Khanye defaulted court on July 6 where he was supposed to attend trial for bicycle theft.
