Thieving guard falls to death from ceiling

Mike Mangola of Plot 2 Berhills Farm, Ra-ffingora, who was employed as guard, died on Wednesday when he allegedly tried to break into a storeroom with farm produce and inputs.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confir-med the incident.

“Preliminary investigations show that Mi-ke Mangola fell from the roof of a storeroom after it gave in owing to his weight because it was old and he died on the spot,” he said.
On the fateful night, Mangola was on duty at the farm when he allegedly went to the storeroom under the cover of darkness and climbed the wall of the storeroom.
There is a gap between the wall and the roof for ventilation. Inside the roof is some mesh wire which serves as the ceiling.

Mangola reportedly cut the mesh to gain entry into the storeroom.
However, owing to his weight, the roof and the mesh curved in and he fell with it to the ground where he hit the base of a bed that was in the storeroom. Debris, which included concrete mix on the thatched roof also fell on him and he died on the spot.

His body was discovered by Lovemore Sakhala, another guard who had come to relieve him the following morning.
Sakhala had reported for duty as usual for their changeover, but he found that Mangola was not on his sentry point.
He discovered that the storeroom roof had curved in. On investigating further, he found Mangola’s body under the rubble and repor-ted the matter to the police.
