POLICE in Bulawayo have said three Honda Fit vehicles were stolen in the city in the last two weeks and negligence has been cited in two of the reported theft cases.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said it was worrying that there was an element of negligence on the part of some of the motorists who lost their vehicles.

She said in one of the cases, the driver left the key in the ignition making it easy for the thief to easily get away with the car.

“In another case, the driver again had not locked the car, placing the car keys under the mat and again the thief managed to steal the vehicle.

“The third car was stolen after someone smashed a window of the car and managed to steal the car.

All the stolen vehicles were Honda Fit vehicles,” Insp Simango said.

She said the theft cases were a matter of concern to police and motorists who may not have secure parking places at their homes should at least leave their vehicles at car parks dotted across the city.

One of the people who lost a vehicle this month, Mr Lawrence Zingwevu from Nkulumane suburb, said his silver Honda Fit registration number ADH 2017 was stolen an hour after he had parked it outside his home.

“I arrived from Kezi at about 4AM last week on Wednesday. I entered my house leaving the car outside the yard and within a space of an hour the car was stolen. In the car I had left $105, my wallet with my identity documents and bank cards.

“All these things were stolen. I’ve since reported the theft to the police,” said Mr Zingwevu.—@nqotshili
