AN INYATHI teacher was beginning a 29-year-jail speall yesterday after admitting sexual attacks on 10 primary school pupils. Evil Nkosiyazi Sibanda, 20, of Sikwata Village in Lower Gweru, was facing 17 counts of sodomising pupils from Longwe Primary School where he was employed as a temporary teacher. Delivering judgement, Regional Magistrate Colet Ncube reminded the paedophile that two of his victims would forever struggle to hold their stools as they suffered damaged sphincters after his sexual attacks.

“After considering all the evidence, this court finds you guilty of sodomising 10 boys on 15 different occasions. You’re therefore sentenced to 29 effective years in prison since you’re a first time offender. You’re also a young person who might have acted out of immaturity.

“Accordingly, for count one and two (sodomy) which were counted as one, you’re sentenced to 15 years in prison. For count three and four (also sodomy) also counted as one, you will also serve 15 years. These four counts bring us to a total of 30 years of which five are suspended for five years on condition you are not convicted of a sexual offence or you will be imprisoned without the option of a fine,” he said.

Ncube sentenced Sibanda to a further four years in jail for the remaining counts as they were of a lesser gravity.
“Teachers hold positions of trust in our communities and this court does not condone such behaviour especially from a teacher who represents parents in schools. This court also bemoans the high prevalence of child sexual abuse cases in the country thus we should send a message to all perpetrators. This sentence will be sent to the High Court for review.”

Sibanda sodomised the boys between September 2012 and October last year.
Medical reports read in court indicated that two of the 10 victims sustained damaged sphincters, causing them to soil themselves.

Sibanda’s sex attacks were brought to an end in October last year when a 13-year-old boy told police officers he had been abused over a period of three months.
A police investigation found nine other boys who also told how Sibanda had sexually abused them.

The Grade 7 pupil who sparked the investigation told police that sometime in August last year, Sibanda called him to his bedroom before closing and locking the door. He then grabbed the boy and molested him once.

On October 1, Sibanda sent the same boy to his house after telling him to go and make a fire.
But he quickly followed and performed a sickening sex attack on the boy which left him in great pain.

The boy told his mother leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
