circuit roared into life at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
The international tennis tournament for the juniors has attracted a draw of 48 for the boys’ singles while there are 32 girls.

The tournament’s top 16 boys’ seeds getting byes from the first round while the top eight girls also received byes.
Top Zimbabwe junior player Tendai Tapfuma is the number one seed for the boys while Matthew Roussouw of South Africa is the second seed.
Another local player Innocent Mhere is the seventh seed while Zimbabwean girl Valerie Bhunu is the number one seed.

Pauline Chawafambira, also from Zimbabwe, is the second seed with South Africa’s Illze Hartings coming in at three and Vimbai Ugaro is at number four.
The tournament started yesterday with 12 matches being played while the last 32 boys will battle it out today.

The last 16 girls will also take to the courts today before the second round and the doubles matches.
In the matches played yesterday, Zimbabwe’s Taremedzwa Mariga overcame the loss of a set to upset Joshua Warren of South Africa 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
There was also no joy for Joshua’s twin brother, Benjamin, as he lost 2-6, 2-6, to Zimbabwe’s Ngoni Mudoti.

Sebastian La Grange of South Africa sailed 6-2, 6-4 past Zimbabwe’s Zibusiso Ndimande with Zandre Duvenhager of Namibia dismissing Zimbabwe’s Luca Picci 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Obakwe Lekang of Botswana thumped Zimbabwe’s Brendon Lovendale 6-2, 6-0 with another Tswana player Innocent Tidmani edging Zimbabwe’s Brian Langley 6-1, 6-2.
In the girls’ ties, Jessica Simpson of South Africa easily beat Nicole Dumbutshena of Zimbabwe 6-0, 6-0 with Thabile Tshadedi getting the better of Nozipo Montja of South Africa 6-3, 6-3.

Melisa Laing of South Africa beat Zimbabwe’s Thembie Ndlovu 6-1, 6-0 while Nicole Dzenga battled to a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jabu Khubeka of South Africa.
Zimbabwe Damaris Musera beat Nompulelo Motja 7-5, 6-3.
The tournament is set to end of Saturday.
