Surprise Phiri (31) of 4221 Gwabalanda and Robson Senziwayo (24) of 31327 Entumbane, were remanded on their hospital beds at the United Bulawayo Hospitals where they are admitted while Webson Sibanda (27), of 4221 Gwabalanda, appeared at the Bulawayo magistrate’s court.

Phiri was shot on the leg and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section shot Senziwayo on the buttocks when the two attempted to escape on 22 December.

The trio allegedly pounced on Amtec Motors trading as Total Service Station along 12th Avenue in the company of Clever Nengomasha and Peace Mutemi, who are still at large.

The court heard that they armed themselves with a pistol and threatened to shoot three fuel attendants who were counting money in preparation for closing shop for the night.

Phiri, Senziwayo and Sibanda were all remanded in custody to 10 January by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa.

It is alleged that on 9 December at about 7pm, the five accused went to the garage, where after threatening Ms Shylet Matope, Messrs Tinashe Taranike and Marvelous Katsidzira, with a gun, they allegedly stole $1 163.33 cash, 191 Econet airtime recharge card strips of a dollar each, $414 worth of Telecel airtime recharge card strips, LG and Vodaphone handsets.

The court heard that after that the gang then force- marched the workers into a room and locked them up before driving off in a white Corolla.

The total amount stolen was $2 236 and nothing was recovered. Mr Mazwi Goto is representing the State.
