CYCLISTS have upped their preparations for Bulawayo’s biggest cycling event, the Tour de Bulawayo, set for this weekend.  The two day event is expected to attract cyclists from all corners of the country. Chrispen Kazingizi, the Bulawayo Flying Eagles Cycling Club spokesperson who are the organisers of the event, said cyclists had started registering and they were expecting about 30 cyclists from all over the country.

“It is one of the biggest cycling events in the city and we are expecting about 30 cyclists from across the country,” said Kazingizi.
“It is a very important race for the registered cyclists as they need to accumulate points for the National and Classic series,” he said.

Kazingizi said the registration fee is $20 for cyclists who want to participate in one event and $10 for those that want to ride in one race.
The event will feature eight different rides which are 70km elite, Under-23 Matopos road ride, 50km ladies, junior elite, Masters and 40km social races.
The races will be categorised in three different age groups being the Under-23, Under-19 and Under-17.

Kazingizi said cyclists should ensure they have helmets and to see to it that their bikes are in perfect condition and do not pose a danger to other cyclists.
“We want to make sure that the cyclists are safe and have the necessary gear to keep them safe while competing in the event,” he said.
