RUGBY enthusiasts will be in for a treat as the local clubs lock horns in the Hartsfield Independence Trophy in Bulawayo tomorrow.
Bulawayo giants Busters, Old Miltonians and Western Panthers are set to clash in the event.Midlands teams Gweru, Midlands State University and Zvishavane Bulls are also expected to take part in the tournament as well.

Event organiser Rueben Kumpasa said they saw it fit to celebrate Zimbabwe’s 34 years of independence with games to give their fans something to cheer about during the long holiday.

“We saw it fit to do something over the long holiday and we are celebrating independence with our fans,” said Kumpasa.
He said they would use the tournament to wrap up their pre-season preparations ahead of the start of the National Rugby League which kicks off next week.

“We want to keep our boys fit before the start of the NRL season next week and this will be any opportunity for our coaches to test new combinations,” he said.
Busters coach Kumpasa said he would be fielding a strong side tomorrow.

“I now have a full squad, so I will select a strong team on Saturday and I want to test those who haven’t played in our pre-season games,” said Kumpasa.
Busters have the likes of Tapiwa Mangezi and the Ferrera brothers Jan and Schlak expected to lead the side to play-offs this year.

“I think we have a stronger squad this year, which is even better compared to the one which reached the final in 2012, we just have to do last touches before the season starts,” said Kumpasa.
