FORMER Premier Soccer League side Tsholotsho opened a two-point lead at the top of the Southern Region Division One League following a slim 1-0 away win over Main Line FC at the weekend.

A solitary strike by Remmington Masuku stretched Tsholotsho’s unbeaten run to six games, as they moved up to 14 points.

The only other unbeaten side in the league Makomo, who are coached by Warriors’ assistant gaffer Rahman Gumbo, moved two places up the table into second place following a 2-1 home win against Bosso 90.

Makomo dislodged ex-Premiership side Hwange, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Moto Moto in a coal mining town derby.

Talen Vision suffered their first defeat of the season, edged 0-1 by Casmyn to drop from third to sixth on the log.

ZPC Hwange tripped 1-2 at Indlovu Iyanyathela, which saw the army side moving into the top four with 11 points, while the electricity generators dropped into seventh place from fifth.

Joseph Sibindi, Tsholotsho’s coach, was happy with maximum points.

“I’m happy for the boys because they fought hard for the victory. Main Line gave us a good run, but I think we controlled the game well and poor finishing let us down. We will keep working hard so that we keep on improving and the good thing is that the boys are keen to learn with every passing game,” Sibindi said.

On title aspirations, Sibindi said: “We’re not thinking of that at all. What is key is for us to try and pick up as many points as possible, improve our game and see where we are at the end of the season. We’re in a competitive league and I think it’s too early to give any side the title favourites’ tag.”

New boys Toronto remain the only team yet to register a win, while Casmyn and Zim Leopards recorded their first wins by claiming the scalps of Talen Vision and ZRP Bulawayo respectively. Casmyn edged Talen Vision 1-0 and Zim Leopards overcame ZRP Bulawayo 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

Toronto have three points from six games and remain glued to the bottom of the league table.
