Takunda Maodza Harare Bureau
MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has refused to stay with Elizabeth Macheka at her Borrowdale house in Harare because he fears vacating the Highlands mansion, bought for his use as Prime Minister during the inclusive Government, will pave way for a Zanu-PF takeover of the property. This was revealed by his wife in a sensational audio recording in possession of our sister paper The Herald.

Macheka built the Borrowdale House among other properties she has inHarare.

She argues that the three-bedroom Highlands house is too small to accommodate the family.

Macheka has begged Tsvangirai to join her in Borrowdale but her plea fell on deaf  ears.

It has also emerged that Tsvangirai and the extended family do not trust Macheka whom they fear could be a Zanu-PF agent planted to destroy the opposition leader’s political career from within.

Macheka is daughter to Zanu-PF politician Joseph Macheka.

She is under constant monitoring by the Tsvangirais to an extent of tracking her mobile calls.

So bad is the mistrust that at one time the Tsvangirai family had to verify persons who communicate with Macheka with a mobile phone operator that she uses but found no incriminating evidence.

Even though Tsvangirai, through his spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka, has been denying the story since The Herald broke it yesterday, the newspaper has it on good authority that the rift between the opposition leader and his wife has seen Macheka accused of covertly working with Zanu-PF to kill her husband through food poisoning, plunging the fragile marriage into the abyss.

On the Highlands mansion, Macheka is heard in the recording saying: “He said ‘I’m not comfortable, it’s your home(Borrowdale) you may expel me anytime’.

Of course I built this house, fine, but it’s his too. How I financed it isn’t an issue but it’s ours. Isn’t this place known as Mr and Mrs Tsvangirai’s home?”

She reveals during a family hearing presided over by one of Tsvangirai’s nephews that her husband is scared of losing the Highlands mansion to Zanu-PF and would rather live in it than join his wife in Borrowdale.

‘‘He said he was afraid of losing the Highlands home should he vacate. ‘Zanu-PF might occupy it,come join me in Highlands’. How many bedrooms does the Highlands home have?”

Macheka argues the house cannot accommodate the whole family considering the number of the children they have between them.

Tsvangirai has four and Macheka three.

Tsvangirai and Macheka’s two-year marriage has technically collapsed and   efforts by close relatives to mend it have failed.

Macheka claims Tsvangirai is an unrepentant and ungrateful cheat, who despite failing to consumate their relationship, still tries his luck elsewhere.
